about the artist

Alex Slydel grew up in central North Carolina. They received their BFA in Sculpture from the University of North Carolina at Asheville in 2018, and their MFA in Applied Craft and Design from the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, OR in 2021.

Although Slydel has been a life-long artist, their love-affair with ceramics and wood-firing didn't begin until January 2016. Ever since, clay has been their primary medium of choice.

Slydel is fueled by an inherent need to create. They look both outward to plants and animals, as well as inward to lived experience and identity for inspiration. The handmade nature of their work shows no two pots are the same just as no two people are the same.
